My Timeline Experience
Hi, I used this forum a lot during my long and stressful wait. My timeline was pretty unorthodox, so I decided I would share it just in case someone experiences the same.

I'm international student on an F-1 visa and applied for OPT.
1) 07/11/2016 -- USCIS received my application: E-mail and text message update received. My application was transferred to the Potomac Service Center.

2) I got a job offer soon after I applied for OPT, but the job offer would expire after a month. I managed to get the company to wait for me, but they started asking me frequently about my status. Then I decided to try a congressman.

3) 09/05/2016 I send an expedition request to my congressman in Davis, CA.

4) 09/08/2016 The office of the congressman replies via email stating they need a letter from my job that if my application is not expedited I risk losing the offer.

5) 09/09/2016 I get a letter from the company and forward it to the congressman. I, however, never got a reply from their office. I think they did get it expedited, though.

6) 09/15/2016 I get an e-mail from the international student advisor at my university asking about my status. I tell her my case still says "Case was received" and no updates yet. She replies and says my SEVIS record states I was approved for OPT on 09/13/2016.

09/16/2016 I send USCIS an inquiry about my missing approval status.

09/21/2016 USCIS send a reply stating the following : "An approval notice is not generated by the Potomac Service Center for this application as receipt of the Employment Authorization Document serves as the approval notice."

**trust me, I wasn't sure what to think at this time. I hadn't gotten any email updates about my approval or updates online. No e-mails about a card being in production or a card being sent.**

09/22/2015 I get my card in the mail. My status is still "Case was received" online.

Don't worry if you are not getting any status updates. Chances are your card is just around the corner!!
