Ombudsman - Travel Document Emergency
I filed my case the first week of January, marriage with US citizen.
I applied at the same time for I-485, I-765 and I-131 and receipt notices arrived a few days after in the mail. I had my biometrics taken on February 2. I was told by my attorney that my Travel Document was going to be in the mail in the next 90 days and today is day 109. I know now, from reading other people's experience it usually takes longer than what I was told but I only started doing research when I panicked. I am a member of a global non-profit organization and I planned a trip to attend to an International conference that is coming up in May. I purchased all my flights (departing 5/8) based on the time I knew.

The status for my case online has not been updated since January (in both websites) so I scheduled an info pass appointment and the soonest date I could find was May 1. My flight is in a little more than a week, so I decided to go to the USCIS office before my appointment and they requested me to write a letter with the details of my trip and the impact if I don't get my travel document on time. I also submitted my flights and a letter from my organization explaining what the organization is about and why my attendance is important.

The officer asked for my contact information but I haven't heard back from them and I have been checking my email, phone and status online every couple hours. No updates at all.

I submitted an online request with an Ombudsman today describing my case. I would incur financial loss without that document given that I have all the flights and expenses purchased and I do not want to risk abandoning my application. I haven't been able to sleep well these last few days. I would like to know about experiences with ombudsman.

If a miracle happens and I get this done on time to travel, could I leave in case I am already approved but haven't received the card physically in the mail. My husband is going to travel a week and a half after me so he could take it for me to present when I return. But I don't know if me leaving when its approved but not in the mail would still be considered abandoning my application.

Please share if you have any experience with something similar. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
