Parents got 10 year visitor's visa
Thanks to this website and all those of you, who have shared their experiences, my parents have got a 10year visa.
My parents submitted their documents at Pune. After duly scrutinizing the documents, it was suggested that it is advisable to keep 2 copies of NOTARIZED I-797 (Notice of Action) and I-94 (DepartureCard), one each for parent. But the application was accepted and my parents got the visa interview date as desired. Since my parents wanted visa date only after 2 weeks (due to other commitments), I was able to send them the relavent docments.
At the USConsulate in Mumbai, the lady who interviewed them was American, but she also spoke Hindi.
My I-797 & Visa is expring in June 2004. She asked my parents, if I am aware of it. My parents told them that I am aware of it and am planning to renew it. She then said, what if it is not renewed. My father said that I would come back and that we would abide by the law.
My father has retired from a high post and is earning good pension. He was asked if he could afford going to US independently, without me sponsoring him. For which he said NO as it is very expensive and doesn't want to go on his own.
The interviewer then ASSERTED my mother and said "your daughter-in-law is pregnant". My mother said no to that and told her that they are planing to come to US only to me us & meet the friendly americans and see the culture.
She also asked them why they have not come to US in the last 5years (i have been in US for 5years). My parents told her that they had other responsibilites and my marriage.
My parents told me that she was impressed by looking at the letter from my employer. She said great and raised her eye-brows. I don't know why. The format was as giving in this website.
Apart from these questions, they were asked several questions listed by other members of this forum. In all they asked about 10-15questions within a span of 5mins.
Thanks to everybody who have shared their experience and best wishes to all!!!
