Rejected Twice
Hello,

My partner has been to the embassy twice for interviews. The first time we went we were unprepared and that did not even matter much as they rejected her before she even had an opportunity to say anything.

The last time we went the officer was extremely kind, asked her many questions and said she regretfully had to decline her at this point with a 214b, but encouraged her to apply again in the future.

My sister is getting married on May 19th, 2018. We are being included as part of the bridal party (hopefully if we can obtain this visa).

The first time we went my partner had no travel history or employment record. That was September of 2017. Shortly after she secured work in a guesthouse (not great money and I know it is not the type of job they are looking for but none-the-less it is a job). We have since visited Hong Kong and Vietnam on Holidays. Obviously they gave her more of a look over the second time with the new employment and travel history. We want to apply again, actually I have already paid the fee to attempt a third time. What can we do to make her case as strong as possible.

Someone suggested we obtain a Schengen visa for the summer as that would be after the date of our trip back to the states. They said that having a trip planned and visa already obtained would make her a better candidate and make the officer more likely to believe that she will indeed return to her home country if we have already put forth the money for a separate trip after the date of our intended trip to America. Does this sound like a good idea or just a waste of money?

We have some time in March where we were intending to visit friends in Cambodia, however, if we go to a more western country like Australia (any suggestions?) would that make our chances higher?

Please let me know if anyone has had any experience with these options and how they worked or if you have any stories of cases where you were able to strengthen an application.

I am an American born passport holder, I have been living abroad for 3 years now in the same country while maintaining the same work. She already has all of my work information and letters from my company and boss stating that I will be returning to my job after our trip.
