Travel Insurance
I was visiting for 6 months from India, and took insurance with AIG Accident Health Claims Division, P.O. Box 15701, Wilmington, DE 19850.
The insurance was purchased through INDIA NETWORK HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM.

I paid hefty premiums each month. But, when I was involved in an accident in which I slipped and broke a bone, the kind of coverage and the inordinate delay in processing the claims was incredible. The kind of reponse you get when you call their toll-free number to enquire about why the bills are not yet paid, is indicative of the crass amorality of the whole business. Week after week, whenever you make a call, the person at the call-centre who answers your call after a wait of over 25 to 30 minutes(!) says that my file is still under processing. And every time you call, it is a different person answering your call!! And one person says exactly the opposite of what another person says the next time!!

There ought to be some way of making the insurance companies more transparent and accountable, and make them pay quickly, but if you ask the insurance companies, they will wriggle out by saying that people submit false claims. Basically they are implying that the doctors, clinics and hospitals treating the patients are dishonest.
