Okay, my fiance has been back for a couple of days now and I've finally had time to process everything. Here's how his timeline went:

Submitted Paperwork to Lawyer: October 24, 2016. His great-grandma has diabetes, hypertension and is pretty old. He needed a doctor's note, his birth certificate, as well as his mother's, his grandmother's and his great-grandmother's. Make sure your documents are translated and easy to follow - he had to get his translated twice because they were difficult to follow because his family basically recycled names for three generations so it was hard to tell who was who after a bit.

USCIS Received Paperwork: January 3rd (Lawyer INSISTS he sent it in October..we will never know what happened for sure. This was honestly the worst part, finding out that we had to wait yet another three-four months).

"My Name Was Updated" : May 10

Approved: May 11

Received Paperwork for travel: May 27th.

Left through JFK: May 29

Returned: June 2. Plane landed at 1:07 am, and at 2:20 he was in the car on the way home with me! The officers asked him standard questions, and he said the whole thing went very smoothly.

Now, does anyone know if he has a specific time frame in which to adjust his status? Or since he has the inspection now, is he good to go?
