smooth process
Hi,
Thanks to immihlep and to all the people who have shared their experience. it really helped me a lot to prepare my self.

I scheduled my interview on 20th of Jan. After I booked the appointment I realized that I made a small mistake in filling DS 160. So I cancelled the appointment, filled new DS 160 form and took appointment on 24th of Jan. you can cancel the appointment only once. if you cancel appointment more than once, your HDFC bar code will be deactivated for 90 days.

My interview time was at 11.15. I reached consulate at 10.20AM with my family. I have a kid who is 3 years old. I was little worried about her as she doesnt hold her ground even for a sec. we had to stand in queue for 5 min out side for security checking. token was issued and we entered inside the first building. we waited there about 5 min and our token was called in counter 3.

we stood in the queue for another couple of mins. the lady at the counter was an indian. she took our passports, DS 160 confirmation page, interview appointment letter, HDFC receipt, H1 petition documents, original I 797, and I 129 forms with the passports. She looked at my I 797 and entered my petition number and verified couple of details.

Then she kept all the documents and passports in a blue folder, gave it to me, and asked us to move to next building. we slowly walked to next building, had water on the way.

There was pin drop silence at that place. There were about 60 to 80 people in that hall. we were looking for empty seats around. before we found the seats our token was called. if you are accompanied with the kid you dont have to wait for long time any where in the consulate.

there were already 2 people in the queue. we stood there for couple of mins. My conversation went on like this.

me: Good morning officer
VO: Good morning. sorry for keep you waiting in the queue for long time. (he was supposed call me next, but he had to handle some one else case)
me: no Problem sir
VO: (took the blue folder, which has passports, hdfc receipt, DS 160 confirmation page, H1 petition docs, I 797 and I 129, scanned the DS 160 confirmation page, looked at the computer for half a minute, then took finger prints)
VO: how long have you been working in ABC
me: ABC is my future company.
VO: in which company are working currently
me: XYZ
VO: how much is your total exp? ( he was not waiting for my answers. before i finish my answer he was asking next question, i realized that visa has been approved)
me: 7 years 10 months
VO: whats your role
me ( explained him the role)
VO: do you work for client projects or inhouse projects?
me: inhouse projects
VO: whats your salary in USA
me: (told him the salary)
VO:(then looked at my wife, and asked) how long have you have been married
my wife: close to 5 years
VO: your visa has been approved. you will receive passports in one week.

The total time spent in consulate was just half an hour. we came out of the building at 11AM.others were waiting in the queue for long time. but since i went there with the kid i never had to sit and wait even for a min.
