Hello everyone,
just trying to see if anyone can provide any advice or someone who is going through the same frustration with getting the first social security card.
Our Experience:
I and my husband got married in October of last year. our process was quite fast and he got his green card in March right before the whole lockdown happened and the SSN offices closed.
The application I-756 we filled was closed because" the applicant or petitioner received a status or benefit through other means" which I believe that meant since he received his green card this early he can just go ahead and apply for his social in person. although we did request his social on the application I-756. but we never received it.
we have been calling the social security office and it just frustrating they don't know when they will open the offices again and there is no way to apply for the first social security number unless you have an exception which is obtaining job letter from an employer and send it with the originals documents: original Green card/passport/job letter/SS5 application then an appointment can be issued they said.
My question is anyone going through this? and is it safe and secure to just send all original documents in the mail (without getting lost)? anytime frames if anyone already sent? or what's the best way to go about this? can an attorney help?
My husband's life right now literally is on hold nothing can be done without social no driver license/job I can't even file my taxes jointly with him. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone provides us with any advice.
