Does it make a difference, for immigration purposes, if we file our tax return "married jointly" versus "married separately"? I am asking because there is a difference in the deductions, tax owed in each scenario, etc. so I want to be able to make a decision based on how much we will have to pay in either one of the two options, rather than on any other reason.
