Me and the wife planned to visit the philippines for a vacation and to to attend my brother's wedding.
our scheduled vacation was from Sept. 2 -16 but before we left, we had an appointment with our lawyer. Our lawyer said that we have an advantage on the interview because we traveled together outside the country together and she said its pretty much a done deal once we brought up the trip on the interview.
Day of the interview:
we arrived at the federal building in downtown L.A around 12pm but our appointment was at 1:30pm. we went straight up the 6th floor of the building but nce we were there, the security told us to wait in the building lobby and come back 15 minutes before our appointment. we went back around 1:10pm and checked-in in the first counter of the USCIS office. the lady told us to wait for my name to be called so that they would take my fingerprint and picture. after they called my name the lady said to go to the other waiting room and somebody will call us.
after 15 mins of waiting, the officer called us. we then proceeded to her office. she sworn us in, asked for proof of identification and we started the interview.
she asked my wife first. she ask the normal questions like what her name, date of birth, etc. but when she asked my wife asked when is my birthday, my wife screwed up the date and then the officer told her "why are you looking around? you don't know your husband's birthday?" my wife say yes, she know my birthday and she corrected herself.
After that, she asked the questions. she asked the basics like name, birthday, when did you last entered the U.S, etc.
and then she asked about how me met, when did we get married, who's decision is it for us to get married. we answered it correctly.
she then asked for other proof of our bonafide marriage and the first thing that we shown her is our plane tickets and boarding passes from our vacation. she then asked for pictures taken from the vacation and and also other pictures from the past and our wedding photos. She kept some photos and she asked for our joint bank statement. we gave her a copy of it and all the copies of the evidences that we brought.
after that she said to us that she will review our case and will have an answer through the mail within 30 days or less. after that, she said she'll make copies of our ID's, Passports and my birth certificate and told us to wait for her at the waiting room. After a couple of minutes, she came back and gave us the documents but before she gave back my passport, she asked me again on "when did you last entered the U.S legally?" I said March 2011 and she said I was wrong. around this time I got scared and confused because I can't remember the exact date that I came in back in 2011 and she said "the last time you came in legally was on September 16, 2017" I completely forgot that and I said my apologies to her and I told her I got confused. She gave me back my passport and we left.
An hour after the interview, my phone started blowing up with text messages (I think I received around 12 texts) coming from the USCIS and I already knew that we were approved. Still checked it out and it said that my new card is in production. I WAS JUMPING FOR JOY and my wife cried because we are sooo happy that we got approved and that this journey is finally over.
for all of you who are still waiting, be patient and always pray to God because in his perfect time he will grant whatever it is your heart and mind desires.
