Adjustment of Status - I-485

I need someone to guide my experience to better understand the USCIS process. Here is my story.
I applied for defensive asylum in 2018 due to a failed AOS interview and I was placed to removal process. At some points, The judge assigned to my case recused herself for some reasons best to known her but a year later, she was later re-assigned to my case. Then, my court date was scheduled for another years, along the line, I met my wife whose an America citizen 3 month before my court appearance. She applied for an adjustment of status for me since November,2020. I have not received any mail from USCIS, the check we issued is not yet cash either. we made several attempts to reach out to customer service but the answering machine couldn't allow us speak to anyone.
Does anyone have similar experience or advise to render?
