MT LAUREL, NJ Marriage based
This thread has been really helpful to me for the whole adjustment of status process and so i decided to share my experience, i did the filing myself without involving a lawyer cos i didnt have the money lol;
Priority date: 04/21/2016
Receipt Notice: 04/27/2016
Biometrics Notice:05/07/2016
i did a walk-in a couple of days after i received the notice tho, i tried my luck, the officer asked why i was there before my appointment date and i explained to him that i didnt have means of transportation on that day cos my wife would be at work, and he said he was going to squeeze us lol...so i got fingerprinted and photos taken that day.
Interview: 07/05/2016
The interview went pretty well i must say, we went like 30min before the appointment time. The security checked the notice and we went through the whole security check just like the airport lol took off belts, shoes, wrist watches etc lol, after about 30mins wait we finally got called in, we weren't separated, before we sat down he requested we took the oat which we did.I was nervous AF cos my tourist visa had expired like 6months ago, i felt like a little young deer in the lion's den lol cos i didn't know what to expect,prior before that i had watched videos on YouTube of people whose interview didn't go well lol. Anyway He then requested for our original marriage certificate and to my greatest surprise, i forgot it at home, at that point we looked like jokers hehehehehe, he was kind about it tho cos i told him i had the copy of it and he accepted it, most of the questions he asked came from the I-485, "Yes" or "No" answer, all my answers were "No", he then asked how we met and when we decided to get married, my wife answered the question tho, and i was at the background contributing lol and that was it. He gave me a requested for evidence tho as he wasnt comfortable with the birth certificate i gave him, it was from a private hospital in ma country, he said he wanted one that was issued by the government, and i said ok...he asked if we had any questions, i was tempted to ask about my EAD as i had not gotten it, but a voice in ma head was like "dont say anything, just go" so i left.
Anyway i submitted the requested document after a week as i had to get it from my country, since then the status still remained 'interview Schedule' but i called them out of curiosity to know if the document i submitted was accepted or not as the status didn't change and the CSR said i should give like 2months if nothing happen then i could call back.
2 months sounded like 2years as i was not working, just home and bored everyday but there was nothing i could do then to my surprise, 07/25/2016 i got a notification, it states my case was approve and new card is being produced...am so happy, i don't know how long this is gonna take tho but am here sitting by the mail box and waiting for the mail everyday till that special mail that has my GC arrives lol.
Please if any ideas as to how long it will take to get the GC will be appreciated., thanks guys and i wish all those who are in or about to start the process luck, its not rocket science, u can do it...Thanks guys
