Hello everyone, I am new to this forum, but I received some tips from members in this forum. It helped me less worry before the interview. So I would like to share one, and I hope it will help you somehow.
I applied for the case around 2015, and I got the interview on Sep 8, 2016. This was a long wait for me, but it is really worth. I can't explain step by step for paper work because me and my husband hired lawyer to do all that. But plz pay attention that all F-1 visa should let your status be valid, and keep all original I-20 from all schools you got.
But I guess interview experience is the most important step. Be check list everything on the form that they sent to let you know about the interview schedule. I guess everybody will receive one month ahead.
We married since 2012, but we waited until 2015 to apply for green card because we want one step to be permanent and save money for lawyer. We arrived the office around 9:30AM, and almost 11AM we were called to get inside.
My husband and me waited outside more than one hour, so we kinda chit chat a bit to make more relaxing. Don’t be nervous, and just make deep breath when they call you inside lol. That was I did
First, he asked us name, oath truth and ID. He asked us:
why we applied the paper so late, we just said the truth that we did not have a lot money so we wanna do one step process.
Why we don’t buy life insurance. What if my husband die, who gonna take care me and his step-daughter. So we both said the truth that we not have money, and afford a lot of bills. His brother were our sponsor. He asked a lot questions relate to my I-20 because I moved from Seattle to TX so I changed few new I-20 every time I change the school. I guess he wanted to make sure I was legal.
The tip is make sure your husband knows about your past and everything else so both of us share information whenever he ask. Sometimes they wanna make sure we are real marriage.
Second, he asked us about important day such as marriage date and show him what date on the pics we took. We did not have a lot of pictures, and we only have two joint bank. However, the most important thing is we did join tax together since 2012 so I guess that was strongest evidence for us. He asked me about his daughter information so I answered with confidence. Be sure you speak loud and sometimes make joke with IO so both side will be less serious. We asked the IO about his job, and how does he like the job, or some kind questions like that. We told him the truth that we are young couple, so we don’t have a lot of money. We did not have bills together. Plus, my husband had DUI so he only can work part time.
Make sure you prepared all document organization so whenever the IO ask you, you can show him right away. Always tell the truth because they understand thing happened. They can forgive you.
He asked us a lot same questions in different time so I guess he want to make sure all answered were matching.
Finally, he told us that he does not have any more questions, and ask us if we have any questions. I asked him if everything look ok. He said he need to review it before made decision. We worried, but we were happy same time because does not matter how the decision, that was all information we had. The funny part, I did not pay attention that the IO took my I-94 until I got home. He walked with us to outside the room, and we finished. I checked the case status one hour later, it showed the interview was completed, case must be reviewed. However, 5 hours later it changed to case was approved. I was so happy, and still waiting for the approval notice paper. I hope it will be real and nothing change later… just hope.
Anyway, that is all information I can remember. I hope anyone is waiting for the interview now. Please, keep waiting and prepare good. Make sure you re-do the medical exam because I did mine a week before interview. Some officers are strict, they might hold your case.
