SSN timeframe
I went to the SS office this morning and applied for SS number.I asked him about coming back for a print out of the number for work purposes.He told me a SSN takes a week to acquire and they don't do printouts anymore.I brought with me , my birth certificate and valid passport along with my newly issued Ead card.I was processed in five minutes and got a receipt in letter form that advised me I should receive it within two weeks.It went on to say if I did not receive it within two weeks I could walk in or call the office , and to also bring the receipt.So I got my Ead on Saturday Sept.10th and applied Monday Sept.12th .See no reason to wait before applying based on my experience.Good luck filers.
