AOS Interview via Marriage-Approved (Lawrence, MA) 14 months
I had my AOS interview today and was approved on the spot. The whole journey was extremely frustrating but I'm glad its over.
PD: July 23, 2015
EAD received: September 02, 2015
MY online status said "Fingerprint fee was received" till June, 2016!
June 01, 2016: We are ready to schedule an interview
June 08. 2016: Interview scheduled for July 13, 2016
Day of the interview: When we went it, an IO came out and told us that the interview has to be rescheduled as they don't have my paperwork from NBC. Needless to say, we were frustrated
Aug 21, 2016: Interview scheduled for September 14 @ 1:45
My wife (USC) and I arrived at 1:30, and there weren't a lot of people in the waiting area (about 15). Called in at 2:05 by a lady officer. She asked me to stay back and took my wife in first. After about 10 minutes, she called me in and asked me a few questions (explain later), made me answer the yes/no section and told us that she believes our marriage is legit and she is approving us. We were out at 2:30. At 3:30, I got an update for 485 (New card is being produced). Needless to say, very happy
Questions:
My wife (what she remembers):
1. How did we meet?
2. When did he propose?
3. Where did you buy the ring?
4. Where was the wedding held?
5. How many guests?
6. Cake flavor?
7. Pets? and who feeds them?
8. Supporting docs
Then she called me in:
1. Name, DOB
2. Citizen of which country
3. When did I enter the US and on what visa
4. What kind of work I do, and what kind my wife does
5. Yes/No questions

That's it.
Now why it took 14 months for me, no idea. I came here in 2003 on F1. I'm from Europe (although I'm bi-racial, my wife is caucasian). I got my MS, and PhD from a very good school. I'm employed by a fortune 100 pharmaceutical company on H1. I have never been in trouble with the law. My wife is a Pharmacist. Even with my 'simple' background, it took a while for my background check to be cleared. Although it took a while, I didn't have any issues as I was on H1 and then had my EAD. As for docs, we were well prepared. We had a lease, car insurance, health insurance, 4 joint credit cards (I photo copied the physical card), Checking and savings joint accounts, Joint stock broker account from Fidelity and Merrill Edge, 401k beneficiary.. Lots of photos from vacation and wedding.
Good luck to everyone! Any questions, ask away!
