..:: Houston AOS I-485 Interview Experience 10/19/16 ::..
Same sex couple here, US born of Mexican decent and husband is from the Philippines. We were scheduled for our interview this morning at 7:15AM. We showed up a little before 7 and entered the building. Our lawyer showed up a few minutes later and I would say we were called in on time without incident. Our interviewer was pleasant and professional. We were sworn in and she asked my spouse a few questions and reviewed the file in front of us. We just confirmed what was already in front of her, our employers, our positions at work, our address. Nothing too hard. She asked what we wanted to submit to add to the file. We turned in bank statements, 401k beneficiary designation, health insurance documentation, evidence of travel together, copy of grant deed showing I obtained ownership of my condo as a single man in 2005 and we also turned in my spouse's updated medical exam. Our interviewer reviewed our pictures and took a few to add to the file.

She asked as to step outside and wait. We waited for about 20 minutes and she gave us and our lawyer an approval letter. We requested my spouse's passport be stamped as his employment authorization card is going to expire on 10/21. She approved our request and his passport was stamped. We were out of the building 10 mins after 8AM.

Around 10AM, we got a text and email that the card was ordered. Also, at 7PM tonite we got a text that our case status updated. We checked the USCIS website and our case now shows approved. Its been a long wait and we are happy for our approval and the ability to travel. I hope our experience helps to put some of you at ease with your upcoming interviews.
