I-485, I-130, I-765 (Adjustment of Status)
Hi all,
I wanted to share my experience with you all, to give you an idea on what to expect during your process and how to stay calm and patience during your entire process. My process took exactly a year to be completed, I was stressed out, due to lack of information given to me on where my cases stands.
I filed my own case, did not use lawyer, I have experience collecting and getting documents ready. so I thought the forms are self-explanatory and USCIS is there to help if any questions needs to be answered.
April 2016 - all the documents submitted to USCIS - 1485, 1765 and i130
June 2016 - Bio-metric done for i-765
August 2016 - Received my EAD
August 2016 - Went for the first interview with my wife. I took all the documents and supporting documents with me to the interview (when I say, took all the documents. I mean I did not leave anything, I basically took all the supporting documents). I thought the interview went fine, but my officer was not convinced much. I don't know why? This is the sort of frustration people fall into! My file was put on the side, and nobody bothered to look into it (this is my thinking, this is what i thought after USCIS did not contact me for further documents and neither did they ask me for any more documents)
October, November, December 2016, January, February 2017 - Called USCIS Hotline for further info, opened three service request, but no answer was given to me. Basically, at this moment of time I did not have any progress on my file and no update on my status.
March 2017 - Received a letter from my field office for second interview. I was hopeful, this will be the last time I have to go see them again.
March 2017 - Went for the second interview. I was hoping an experienced field officer will take our interview, because they will know what they are doing. But, I got the same officer who took our first interview. My wife was interviewed first, took about 15 minutes. And called me in alone again. I was asked what my wife was asked. We've been together for 4 years. We share each and every small details in our life, she is my best friend and my love and basically knows each and every detail of our life. Like, my first interview, she asked me about my arrest, I had given all the original court disposition. With a court case like mine, it shouldn’t bring any problem during the immigration process because I had discussed this with my immigration lawyer when the case happened. So, I’m pretty optimistic my case should not bring me any problem (Don’t ask me what the case was). The officer told me, my file needs to be evaluated by the supervisor. My question was, why the field officer didn’t take my file to the supervisor right after our first interview?? This could have saved my time and stress. Because in-between, they never asked me for RFE or anything.
March 2017 – a week after my second interview. MY case was approved. Now I have my GC and I am happy. I am also happy with the field officer who interviewed us. Because it taught me to be calm, Peace and patience when my case was pending. I was in no rush to get my GC, but I was worried it might take forever because I have heard cases which has been pending for many years. I’m thankful to God and my family and my wife, who told me don’t worry they might be busy with more important cases.
Everyone don’t worry if your case is pending. There is nothing to worry about, it’s just a matter of time. USCIS has some of the smartest, intelligent and educated and good people working for them. The time taken in all our cases is the rightful time that should be taken because we are the future of the USA and we want the people who grant us these status to make a right decision. I’m happy that my case took time because it gave me time to be thankful for what I have today.
