Interview in San Jose Office
I got an interview today at SJ office. Overall, the interview was difficult because he asked us so many questions. He interviewed a couple before us, I could see from their faces that they had a tough time with him.
We are a young couple (23 y.o and 22 y.o) but have been together since the last year of high school. We got married right after we graduated from college.
Here was my timeline:
Got married on March 2016
Filed I148, I130,i176 on mid May, 2016
Got EAD on August 2016
Interview on April 14, 2017
Got green card on april 21,2017
First, we did all of the regular things like took an oath, confirm our names, birthdays, address, birth certificates, yes/no questions.
He then asked my husband about my parents how to say and spell their names, when/where/how he met my parents.
He asked me
When and how we met and, dated.
How far it was from my house to his house?
Who were at our wedding?
Why I decided to move here? (We moved here right after we got married because my husband got a job here)
After that he asked for all of joint documents. We handled him everything we had
A few pictures of us with friends and family.
2 debit bank accounts, 1 credit bank account,
Vangaurd investment,
Joint tax transcript,
Auto/ renter/ health insurances .
My husband’s 401k and his life insurance showing me as beneficiary.
Ultility bills, car ownership, rent contract (he didn’t take any of these though)
He seemed to focus on our joint finance a lot. He also asked for my husband paystub (we printed a bunch but he took the latest one only), our IDs, credit cards and then he asked
How much did we get from tax refund this year?
What account the tax money get into?
What account did we used to pay the rent, and credit?
What account our salaries are deposited into?
I said all sources of money go in the same account
He asked for bank statements but I didn’t bring it. So he wanted us to log in our bank account and show him all of the activities. The interview was so tense until the last minutes. But in the end, he smile and said that everything was good and he would approve it soon if the security check was ok. My status changed that evening to “Case was approved”, and I got my green card after a week.
Thank you everyone for all of your useful information. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
