I should be happy, but...
Hi Forum,

I should be happy today because we finally had our interview. It was fairly standard, and we submitted proof of our life together, including shared work benefits, credit cards, our new house, photos, etc. At the end, our officer said we were approved.

However, he advised us that they have up until 120 days to finish the final background check and mail my husband his green card. He advised us not to travel in the meantime, even though my husband received his EAD/AP document, because now that he has been approved but still doesn't have the official green card, it can make it look like his case was abandoned.

We had no idea when this interview would happen, and we are leaving for our "honeymoon" 2 weeks from now. We saved up enough money to finally do it. We also knew this process would be long, so we didn't want to put our life on hold. We've so far paid more than $2,000 on plane tickets alone, and although we bought trip insurance, I was told by the company today that this is not a valid reason to receive a cancellation refund. I'm heartbroken. We were really looking forward to this trip, and on top of that, I'm now going to lose all of the money we put into it, all because our case could look abandoned.

On a day that should be happy for us, I've spent the morning crying. The financial loss to us because of this process is too extreme.
