As you know, uscis doesn't give you a tracking number when mailing out greencard. I read from this forum that some people didn't receive their cards due to undeliverable address (whether uscis puts a wrong address or usps messes it up). So I signed up on usps to receive notification of any mails coming to my apartment. On July 18, I checked that a mail from uscis is on the way and will be delivered on the 19th. Last night 18th around 7pm, I received the notification that it was undelivered due to undeliverable address. I got freaked out, called 800 number, waited 70 minutes, and got a hold of a representative. He looked it up and said the address on the envelop was correct. He asked if I want the mail to be redelivered and I told him I'll pick it up. Since I called them right after the undelivered notification, the mail wasn't yet on the way back to uscis. This morning I went to the post office and picked up my greencard.
If I didn't sign up on the usps website, I wouldn't have known all this until it'd go back to uscis and they would say it's returned which will be a hell to reorder and receive the new mail.
I know it doesn't happen often but it does to some people. I'd highly recommend to sign up on usps website so you'd know where your mail is.
