Charlotte office interview experience
Hi guys,

This forum has really helped me prepare for the interview so I wanted to share my experience.

Received email stating card has been mailed: 08/29/2017

We arrived at the Charlotte office about 15 minutes before the interview. We sat there for about an hour before our officer called us. We had a very informal /chatty interview experience. She first started by asking if I have any documents I wanted to add to our case. I responded by saying yes ---and stated what documents I had. She smiled and said “I was hoping you would say no because you sent in a lot of documents already”. So then my husband asked if she needed to see the docs we had and she responded NO – I have enough to make a determination. She went to state that my medical was missing the gonhea results and I responded that I thought I wouldn’t need to do that since my med exam hadn’t expired yet. She said she would need that and that it was the only thing that would keep her from approving the case today. She then said if we can go back to the doctor’s office and just have them include the missing information in a sealed envelope and bring it back to her she can conclude our case. By this time I was smiling inside coz I knew the outcome would be good J. We responded that we could do that.

Then she proceeded to ask us how we met, from there the conversation just flowed naturally. My husband would speak and I would jump in too and then vice versa. It was all very natural and it led us to talking about our relationship, our families etc. she then asked us to tell her about our wedding (we got married in a courthouse) –she asked us why and we mentioned that we wanted to have a bigger wedding once this AOS process is complete. She asked him what my mother’s name is and he responded. Then she asked me what his middle name was. She asked him what my father’s name was..which was a trick question coz my father is not mentioned anywhere on the application forms as he is not in my life or my birth certificate.

After this she asked me when I came to the US, where I went to school, if I had left since then. Then it was onto the YES/NO questions. After that she said “we are done here – bring make the med exam results and I will approve your case” . We couldn’t believe it, the long journey was over finally!!! Felt so surreal. We’ve been married 3 and half years so I should get the 10 year . She did ask us why we waited long to file and we mentioned it was a money thing. After the interview I rushed to the docs office and they sealed the results for me and I took them back to the offices and dropped them off.

A few hours later I got the status update – “Card in Production” and that my friends is my story. I would say that when you are sending in your packet, try to include as many pieces of evidence as possible and have them organized really well. Based on info I had sent in, looks like officer had already made a determination as to her decision. The rest was up to us to make sure we don’t mess it up for ourselves I would say. When I sent in our information, I sent info from every year we’ve been married since 2014. And like I said she didn’t ask for any additional documentation and she didn’t even ask to see any photos at all!!!!! I didn’t’ mail in any photos coz I was planning to show them at the interview but she didn’t ask for them.

Best wishes everyone!
