My timeline to receive EAD
Hi All,
I have received my EAD card after 138 days’ waiting, during which, I’ve tried everything I could. This forum has been very helpful to me, so I’d like to share my timeline and experience with you:
April 18 (Day 1), Priority date
April 25 (Day 38), Biometrics
August 5 (Day 110), Online SR (1st request), saying they will review my request in 12 days (August 17)
August 9 (Day 114), called to expedite my cased based on job offer (2nd request). Customer services said my request would most likely be rejected like many others. I insisted, then she said my request would be assigned to an officer within 5 days, and I would know my next action by that time.
August 14 (Day 119), my expedite request was assigned to an officer, and I received an email requesting evidence (e.g., job offer), which means my expediting request wasn’t rejected.
August 16 (Day 121), I faxed my job offer, cover letter, notice email, and biometics receipts over. Lawyer asked me to wait for 5days before I do the next step – info pass appointment. He doesn’t recommend me to contact congressman or ombudsman this early. So I made an info pass appointment online – note you can only schedule an appointment in 14 days, and the time slots in certain cities are taken very fast after around midnight. I had to get up at 5am to get a slot in Houston, and there were only 2 slots left at that time.
August 17 (Day 122), my 1st SR was assigned to an officer
August 22 (Day 127), an email responding to my 1st SR said my case was under review.
August 24 (Day 129), I called a 2nd level officer to check if my documents were received since it had been 8 days after I faxed those documents. She generated a request to check administrative error (3rd request).
August 24 (Day 129), I saw people got EAD approval right after they contacted congressman, so I decided to send an email to congressman without notifying my lawyer. I got response the same day requesting evidence and authorization form. I sent them over that night.
August 25 (Day 130), at about 5pm, I received an email saying my EAD card is produced.
August 27 (Day 132), my 3rd request was assigned to an officer, no reply.
August 29 (Day 134), my online status changed to: I-765 was approved
August 30 (Day 135), online status updated: 1) I-131 was approved. 2): EAD card was mailed.
August 31 (Day 136), I-765 approval letter was received
Sep 1 (Day 137), called to a 2nd level officer requesting tracking number. Tracking number shows the priority mail will arrived on Sep. 2.
Sep 2 (Day 138), around 11am, my combo card was delivered.
1) Donot completely rely on lawyer, they simply donot have time just for you, or they don’t care as you do.
2) If you have a job offer, expedite your case, because you don’t know how long it will take. My lawyer told me 120 days, but my gut feeling is if I didn’t try these things, I wouldn’t receive my EAD card on time before my start date (which is today).
3) Different types of requests have different processing time, calculate them well, and make sure they receive your service requests consistently and at least 5 days apart.
4) Wish everyone good luck!!!
