AOS Interview- New York
Hi All,
This forum has been extremely helpful in preparing for my AOS interview so I just wanted to return the favor!

My husband (petitioner) and I (beneficiary) had our interview today, 9/25, at 8.45am at 26 Federal Plaza, NY. We waited for an hour before getting called. The officer swore us in and then asked for birth certificate, marriage certificate, joint tax returns for 2016, joint bank a/cs, lease for past 2 yrs, property docs (we recently bought a condo), utility bills, photos. We then chatted for a while about random things- exp property prices in NY etc.

The officer then asked me a few basic questions- husband’s full name, birth date, current address, date of marriage, father in law’s name, mother in law’s name, mother in law’s maiden name and current monthly rate on our lease. He also asked for my husband’s last address- I didn’t remember the exact address but I knew the street name- the officer didn’t seem to mind much. Then he asked my husband the same questions and my husband also didn’t remember my last address but remembered the street number. He then asked me how I entered US and I said as a student on F1 visa- the officer said okay and then moved on to ask me yes/no questions from I-485 form.

The interview went smoothly and the officer was nice and friendly. At the end of the interview though, the officer said, “I do not have your “A” file so I will not be able to make a decision today- you will have to wait at least 120 days”. He saw our confused faces and then went on to explain that he only has the “T” file which is the temporary file but he needs the “A” file (alien file maintained by Dept of Homeland Security- DHS) to make the final decision.

I came back and googled the “A” file and apparently it can take several months to obtain that file from DHS. So fellow NY filers, this is probably why most people are stuck waiting for more than 120 days. I am not expecting to hear anytime soon- hopefully by next year!

Goodluck to us all!
