Field office: Santa Ana, CA.
We did not use a lawyer, we just read through all the instructions. It took us about 3 weeks to complete everything.
No RFE
With had already sent out a lot of evidence with our package. We initially sent:
-Lease
-Mariage certificate
-3 letters from our friends testifying we are really married
-Tons of photos, Facebook conversations, txt messages, etc.
-Christmas card enveloppe addressed to both our us with our address
-Statement explaining our relationship: how it all started, where we met, when it became serious etc.
For the interview we had:
-Health insurance cards
-Life insurance beneficiary
-Vision and dental insurance
-Renters insurance
-Car insurance
-3 credit cards + 3 months of statements (we photocopied the cards, recto and verso)
-3 months of statements for joint checking account
-3 months of statements for joint savings account
-Current lease (we moved in July)
-Utility bill (electricity, internet, gas)
-Reimbursement statement of our security deposit from our old place
-2 album photos
-Costco membership cards
Our appointment was at 11, we arrived at 10:40 and were called in at 11:30. Before we entered the agent's office, he asked for our IDs and photocopied them. While doing so he asked how long we had been married and when we said 10 months and stated ''ok so you guys will have a conditional GC, do you know how it works?'' We were both still kinda nervous and shocked he was pretty much saying we were approved before even starting the interview.
Once he returned our IDs we went to his office, he left the door opened. Before we could sat down he had us swear everything was the truth. He started by taking my photo (passport style) and 2 fingerprints, he said it was a new procedure established a month ago.
After he reviewed our applications, he asked when was the last time you entered the US and where. Then asked the Yes and No qts. He confirmed our address and went over all the evidence we had already sent. We described a little bit more in details what each was (like Christmas card was from an aunt, so he wrote that down). All along he was being so talkative and that helped us relax.
He didn't even ask to see our original documents (BC, Marriage certificate, passport, etc). He didn't ask for our most recent taxe reports. He just asked us: Where and when did we meet, how was the proposal (although it is already in our statement about our relationship, but he said it would be good for him to write it down in his note section).
We were approved on the spot. He even calculated with us our window frame to apply to the 10 year GC.
We are still shocked by the whole thing! If you have tons of evidence and your application is genuine (meaning you didn't enter here just to adjust your status and your marriage is truly based on love): I promise it should not be a problem. My advice would be to really take the time to send complete and organized applications. Review everything 5 times, ORGANIZE your evidence! We had 2 binders (one for i-130, one for i-485), every picture was dated and had a short description (who and where was the picture), we put 2 pictures per page. Everything was in chronological order. Make it easy for them.
