Interview experience in PHX AZ
Hi everyone,

PD: 12/05/16
EAD: March 2017
Interview Scheduled: 09/11/17 for 10/12/17
Interview Cancelled: 09/13/17 (Unforseen circumstances)
Interview Rescheduled: 09/21/17 for 10/27/17

We had our interview yesterday in Phoenix AZ and this was our experience:

It was scheduled for 9:45 AM and we went with our attorney.
Arrived at USCIS around 9:15AM
We were called for the interview at 9:40AM (5 minutes prior to scheduled time, so make sure to go a little early, you never know)

The officer was a young male, and he started by asking us if we knew what speaking the truth was. We said yes and then he made us stand and take an oath to speak only the truth. He followed this with asking us for our DL, my passport and SSN (only mine).

He then asked our attorney if there was anything he wanted to add before we started. To this our attorney asked if he was talking about additional supporting documents, and this is what he was asking for. So we started handing out updated documents such as: Apartment leases (we had a new one to add over the 4 years of leases we had already submitted), updates to our joint checking account, new savings account, new joint investment account, updated beneficiary info (my wife started a new job at the company I work at after submitting the initial application).

While handing out all this paperwork, the IO made a comment that we had a long history together and that he would not be able to take additional documents because they couldn't have such a large file on us. In my daze (lets be honest, these interviews are stressful even if you are a genuine couple) I just laughed and continued handing more documentation and by the time I reached our new Jointly filed tax transcript my attorney just told us "I think he has enough documents guys". So we stopped handing him more stuff. The IO's comment pretty much set the mood for the rest of the interview.

He then asked me to verify my name, DOB, parents names, my country of birth, and my current Job. I work in cancer research which caught his attention and we spoke for a few minutes about my work.

He then turned to my wife and asked her to verify her DOB, parents names and the cities that they currently live in.

He then looked at the both of us and asked us to tell him our story. My wife and I looked at each other and we decided she should tell the story because she's good with all the details of our relationship. So we briefly explained to him how we met, when we started dating, etc.

Then he asked us where we live currently and for how long. We answered his question and then he asked us a question, which at the time I didn't think anything of, but my wife mentioned to me after the interview that it was a very smartly asked question. He basically asked us if our neighborhood was backed up against something in the city. Initially I didn't quit get his question, but literally 5 seconds after he asked it I figured he was talking about a mountain that the neighborhood is backed up against. So I named the mountain and he smiled and said "great, that must be a nice view".

Our anniversary is coming up so he asked us if we had any plans for that.

He then asked us if we had any plans for the weekend, to which we replied we were going to binge watch stranger things on netflix. He smiled and then told us that everything looks good and that he would need a few minutes to take copies of our DL and my SSN card.

He came back in a few minutes and said that we should expect my GC in the mail within 4 weeks and then continued to tell us how to remove conditions in 2 years. He commended us on our organization and said it was great that we were not fumbling around looking for paperwork.

We thanked him for interviewing us and then he walked all of us out. In all, the interview was about 15-20 minutes.

New documents that he held on to: New beneficiary documents (insurance, 401k stuff) and new trip itineraries that we had since submission of original package.

The IO did not even look at our joint tax return, photo album and birth certificates.

We got back home and started watching stranger things on netflix and by the time we got to episode 3, I got an email stating that they had ordered the card for production. Yay!

My advise to everyone who has their interview coming up:
1. Be organized, the officers seem to really appreciate it
2. Dont be nervous (easier said than done because I was acting like a bumbling idiot for the first few minutes of the interview)
3. Speak the truth because then you will naturally be confident
4. Smile and be friendly. When they ask you for your story, give them all the details.

Best of luck everyone!
