Our initial petition date was August 2016 for Adjustment of Status I-485.
Interview Scheduled August 2017
Had To Cancel Interview due to death in family. The death was legitimate andwe had much evidence and there were no issues regarding that as far as I can tell I had multiple letters from hospital and death certificate for proof.
Interview was rescheduled and attended October 16, 2017. We were in lobby for 15 minutes in morning before being called to Investigating officer's desk.
This is the Houston area and my wife is a Chinese nattional. We live together and have worked at the sa place for two years. I did not think there would be an issue as I love her, everything is legit, and the paperwork was vast and properly filled out. We have some trouble communicating, especially with he rpoor English and my rudimentary Chinese, so we brought a professional translator who does 10-15 Adjustment of Status interviews per month.
The only thing holding me back was my income (only $20,000/yr), but she had an uncle who agreed and signed the paperwork for support. My income is low, because I also attend Graduate School and I figured they would understand that will change after graduation next year and the IO seemed to understand that as I showed her three diplomas (2 Associates. 1 Bachleors received i past two years).
The interview was about 15 minutes long, and she asked a variety of questions which I believe were all answerd correctly. She was a little short at first, but I then developed a very nice repoire (sp?) with the investigating officer and we were very friendly after that - smiling and joking.
When we were finished she said she couldn't approve at this time (a little shocking), and gave us a letter saying a decision will be made shortly, but she did not need more evidence or another interview.
I thought I got along great with her, my wife fairly well with her, and even the translator who sits through so many thought the interviewing officer really, really liked me. He said he's never noticed a time when the majority of the questions were directed to the American and not the fiance. He thought it was a great sign and said don't worry, "I've been to a lot and you guys did excellent." So I wasn't worried.
Now, 3 weeks later, nothing has changed. No computer update, no mail. Nothing, and I thought it was a slam dunk because everything was legitimate and the records accurate and correct as I a meticulous. Now, I am paranoid that she was asking me so many questions for a different reason, perhaps more sinister, as if fishing for information.
Does anyone else have examples of the American getting the majority of the questions, and what is the usual wait time in Houston area? I wasn't worried at all, and now I am a little. I know Hurricaine Harvey slowed things up some, but I am really shocked that it is taking so long. Any ideas, like experiences in Houston, or any experiences in Houston?
Thanks In Advance - I'd like to stop worrying every night. Have a Good Day!
