Visitor Visa - B2

The interview was a short one. Barely a couple of minutes long. Interview on the 29th of Jan 2018 at 9:45am. Reached the Consulate 1/2 hour early.
First there will be a biometric and passport check, followed by the interview itself.
The interview went as follows:

VO: Good Morning, can I have your passport?
Me: Handed over the passport

VO: I see you have been to France.
Me: Yes for a family vacation

VO: So what is your purpose of visit to the US?
Me: Going for a vacation.

VO: I see here that you are going to Los Angeles. How long do you intend to stay?
Me: 1 week( Showing my to and fro flight tickets- which she completely ignored)

VO: Why only for a week?
Me: I have a friend in the US, who is going to be showing me around for her spring break(which is a week long)

VO: Friend or a special friend( with a smile)?
Me: Let's just say a special friend

VO: Where does your "special friend"... can I just refer to her as your girlfriend ?
Me: Yes you can :)

VO: What does your girlfriend do?
Me: She is pursuing her masters in XYZ college in XYZ course.

VO: When does her course end?
Me: December 2018.

VO:Did she come back to India for her winter break in December?
Me: Yes she did for a couple of weeks.

VO: What do you do?
Me: I work for XYZ company

VO: How long have you been working for the company?
Me: 7 months

VO:What is your designation ?
Me: Graduate Engineer Trainee.

VO: Okay I am guessing you will want to visit her ,for her graduation in December as well?
Me: Yes definitely

VO: Thank you. Your visa has been approved. Have fun with your girl friend.
Me: Thank you will do. Have a great day.

In short just be honest. Everyone told me not to mention my girlfriend especially because I was still new at my job etc. But I thought it best to be blunt and honest and it worked out.
