Hi, I would need to give you guys some hints to figure out if they received the papers or no and you might be able to get your receipt number without waiting for the notice at mail.
1- First, make sure that the case was sent to the right office at the right address by checking the USCIS website (
https://www.uscis.gov/i-485-addresses ) and if the package was delivered through the company that u sent your package with using tracking number like ( USPS, FEDEX,etc... )
2-
A- If you sent your money with a check, go to your bank account or visit any branch in person, and ask them if the check was cashed. For sure, if the cash was cashed it means that they have received your case and working on it and in most cases means it was filled properly and is complete and ready for processing and has been put in the line with the other cases.
B- And if it was cashed ask them to give you a FULL image for the check MAKE SURE TO HAVE BOTH SIDES OF THE CHECK ( FRONT AND BACK ). If you have the photo in your hand, flip the check to the back side and you might find your receipt number, and the office that is handling the case on the back of the check.
C- Let's assume that you are sure that you sent everything right, and the check was not cashed. Don't panic, it differs from officer to officer how they process cases, sometimes they cash the check after months of filling. If that was the case, you can contact the USCIS customer service at
( 1800-375-5283 ) and give them your information and they MAY provide you with receipt number if they have received it. They might not have any information in the system and then you don't have many options left, call congress man , call ombudsman, raise a service request.
Notice: If you did any mistake during filling like forget to sign or sent wrong fees, they will not cash the check, and they will send your packages back. Nice thing to do to sign up for USPS alerts that can tell your if there is any package that carry your name and your address is on its way back to you.
- If you did send money using money orders, go to the place you purchased your money order and ask them about the name of the company that issued this money order like western union etc... and if you lost the receipt of the money order purchase ask them to give you a copy from it, then call customer service of the company that issued the money order, give them the receipt umber and the money order number and they will be able to know if the money was cashed and ask gently if they would be able to give you a copy of the money order after it was cashed. I am not sure if USCIS write any information like receipt number or office name regards cases on money order like they do with checks but give it a try, you have nothing to lose.
Notice: If you did any mistake during filling like forget to sign or sent wrong fees, they will not cash the money order, and they will send your packages back. Nice thing to do to sign up for USPS alerts that can tell your if there is any package that carry your name and your address is on its way back to you.
By the way my friend's receipt was in his mail after 18 days form the day that his packages was delivered based on the tracking packages website information.
