GC in hand -- Washington, DC / VA
Hi! I updated you guys about receiving an interview notice for my marriage-based AOS case and yesterday I received my green card in the mail. Just thought I'd provide my timeline in case you'll find it helpful (my field office is Washington DC / Fairfax VA).
PD: June 26, 2017
Biometrics: August 4, 2017
Received EAD: October 6, 2017
Interview Notice: February 15, 2018
Interview: March 26, 2018 (Fairfax, VA)
Approval Notice Received: March 31, 2018
Green Card in Hand: April 4, 2018
I didn't submit any service requests or inquiries; all documents were prepared by myself. I completed my medicals on June 12, 2017 and sent it in along with my application packet.
The interview was about 40 minutes long. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were called in about 20 minutes past our appointed time. We were asked standard questions like 'How did you meet? When was your first date? When was the proposal? What city was your wedding held in? How many people were at your wedding?' etc. She also asked my husband (U.S. citizen) questions pertaining to his knowledge of me (i.e. What is her father's full name? What does her mother do? etc), and she asked me similar questions about him. Then she asked to see some of our joint documents (I gave her our joint leases, joint bank account, joint phone plan, and joint tax filings). She collected them and then asked, "Ok, that's it?" which caught me a bit off-guard. She also verified our employment, and I became unemployed a few months after submitting my application because my OPT expired and I didn't get my EAD card in time, but I explained this to her. She asked me about my education and I told her I have a Master's degree at a reputable college, so I think she was satisfied with that answer. When we completed the interview, I was a bit worried and didn't think it went as well as I would've wanted, and I didn't get instant approval. She simply said that she would update us within 30 days with RFE, second interview, or approval. I didn't get any updates in my USCIS online status. But after about a week, I got the approval notice in the mail and found that the notice was sent out on the same day as the interview, so I guess she approved us on the same day. As I mentioned, the notice was followed by the green card a few days later.
It's been quite a journey and this forum has been very helpful to me and I'd like to return the favor, so let me know if you have questions!
