Some clarity at least
Hello!

I thought I'd share our experience as it aligns very well with everyone else's in this forum.

Married to an LPR
Forms: AOS + EAD + AP
PD: 10/31/2017
Biometrics: 11/28/2017

Ever since then nothing. We did raise multiple SRs, contacted Congressman as well as Ombudsman.
No real progress or action.

We'we have been calling USCIS regularly, soon we will probably be on a first name basis.

The congressman is at least polite and tries to be helpful.
Today marks 184 days total (including weekends + holidays)

ANYWAY.

Yesterday we got through to an L2 officer with USCIS and even though he wasn't really polite he explained that the EAD only gets "unlocked" once you get to a certain stage within your AOS application and that many people (including us) are just not there yet.

He said there was no problem with the EAD, it's the AOS holding things up, more specifically the background check and that they can not issue it until then.
Apparently, it's super slow for everyone so the only thing to do is to be patient and hang in there.

I thought this may be helpful to many of you since USCIS generally provides 0 to no info on these calls, so we were kind of relieved that it's "just" the background check.

I looked up how to speed up the BG check and apparently, there is almost no way ...It's with the FBI and people have been trying to write a letter to the first lady, but personally, I doubt that it helps.

So yeah, I hope that helps at least a bit even though it's not a great piece of news. USCIS should make an announcement informing people about what is holding things up or at least update the cases accordingly... I'm sure they would save themselves a lot of "calls" and SRs and unhappy customers.

Another part of it also is ... many people pay $2k for a service/application you "never" see the result of ... not counting lawyer fees etc.

It's just frustrating.
