Dallas AOS Same Sex Mariage
Hello guys, i just wanted to share briefly my experience, this forum has helped me more than any lawyer could and i truly appreciate it. we had a rough and long process that finally ended this week.
married to USC on July 2016, send paperwork in january 2017. got RFE (Sponsor info) then nothing.
got my EAD in april 2017. i had to file a I102 due to my passport being lost, case for that was approved right away but never recieved anything, submitted several service requests and calls and nothing was mailed to me. then this year in january when i was renewing my EAD, uscis finally told me i could submit a FOIA request for the i102. I did and i got the form approved in a cd 1 WEEK BEFORE MY INTERVIEW.It was crazy. the interview came 1 year and almost 6 months afer submitting paperwork.
i would recommend: bring utility bills, lease, bank statements, tax transcripts, photos. on photos, dont bring that many, and bring pictures that show you guys in an event(birthdays, vacations, etc) the actual interview was great, we got a very sweet and polite lady. asked us about how we met, what we did that day, what we do on days together. then she goes thru the form and ask all those YES/NO questions. so i suggest read your form before you go. she asked me about my spouse birthday 3 times. at the end she asked for my medical, since the one i sent with the app was expired. and said i would hear something in 3 weeks. the same day the status changed to card being produced and today, 3 days later, says card was mailed. im so happy!
A few tips: Bring as much evidence as you can, but wait until they ask for it, dont offer anything right away. she didnt take any paystubs, employment letters, taxes. These officers focus on making sure that the relationship is real, just be relaxed, polite and be yourselves and everything will be ok.
My lawyer went bankrupt 2 days after they submitted my case. their office closed and i never was able to get a copy of my file, had to continue the process, learning by my self. they even made a few mistakes on the form(marriage date,my country of origin)but i explained and everything was fine.
I truly wish everyone of you the best outcome and getting your green card. Be patient and most of all stay prepared and you will be successful!
