Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker here, and finally got my EAD approved, so wanted to share my experience. Reading people's stories here mostly gave me hope, so I wanted to try to repay the favor.
I-765 eligibility category (c)(9)
Receipt date: 02/13/18
Notice date: 02/23/18
Biometrics appointment: 03/22/18
Service Center: NBC
I had a job offer come through in mid May, with a start date of mid August. I was naively still operating under the 90 days estimate for EAD to get approved (geez...), so thought I would be fine. Then when all the EAD processing estimates jumped to 4 - 6 months at the start of June, I freaked out.
That's when I wrote to my local congressperson (look up your representative here:
https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative, then their website should have a section for 'assistance with federal agencies'). Their office was incredibly helpful, and tried to expedite the application with USCIS using my job offer letter.
Congressperson notified me that USCIS officer had pulled my file to review, would contact me within 30 days with decision or notice of action: 06/15/18
Card in production: 06/19/18
My advice is to be as proactive as possible. If you have a job offer, try to use that to leverage some action. I had luck with my local congressperson. Sometimes reading this board made me less hopeful, as some people have been waiting a very long time. I tried to tell myself that the people for whom the applications were smooth or easy or timely were less likely to post their stories than someone who is worried, so try not to get too demoralized by the tails of woe on here.
