NYC Oath ceremonies x 2: Very different
Hey all,
Just had 2 x separate oath ceremonies, first my wife and then myself. Thought I'd share (although ultimately it's all good of course, very very different experiences)

Wife: Federal Plaza
Superbly organized
Welcome information packet, and flag to wave
Phones / cameras so photos and video allowed
Joyous occasion
Pledge, and then sang Star Spangled Banner and Proud to be an American
Video message from the President
Great speech from the guys at the front. Made you feel so special
All the time you wanted afterwards to take pictures in front of the seal, with the officials etc
Everyone so happy

Me: 500 Pearl Street, Southern District Court
Guards yelling-and I do mean yelling-the moment you enter the building. TURN YOUR PHONES OFF!!! THIS IS NOT A COFFEE SHOP
After security, immediately have to hand your phones in to security (citizens and guests), so no pictures or videos of the ceremony
Unfriendly women take your forms, green card, and ask questions
Unfriendly guy checking your certificate details. Gave people who struggled with English a really hard time (a different guy on the other side was lovely-all smiles and 'congratulations'. Pity they weren't all like him)
'Come back in an hour. Go to the cafeteria. We start at 11am'.
11.30am we're all sitting there with nothing happening
Judge walks in. We stand, take the pledge, judge speaks for 90 seconds, then they start calling names to come up, shake hands, and collect your certificate. Luckily I was 6th or 7th.
'You can go now'
That was it-no singing of the anthem, no Proud to be an American, no flag to wave.
Frankly, it was awful, for what is supposed to be a special day

Anyway, hope you guys get Federal Plaza for your ceremonies!

p.s. there is a UPS (photocopies) and the huge Post Office through the City Hall park about 5-6 minutes walk away, if anyone wants to go and submit a passport application straight after the ceremony
