Timeline:
- February/2018 - Married to USC
- March/2018 - Submitted application with a lawyer
- April/2018 - Biometrics
- May/2018 - Case is Ready to be scheduled for an interview
- August 2018 - Interview was scheduled
- October 2018 - Interview happened and received GC 7 days after it
PS: Received the EAD card with advanced parole one day before the interview.
Interview:
The interview took about 20 minutes, and 80% of the questions were from the application (where do you live? DOB, Where was your partner born?, What do you do at company XYZ?, What are your partner's parents name? etc).
The other 20% of the questions where about the relationship: Where did you meet? When did you meet? Where did you propose? How did you propose? Did you have a ring ready? Does anyone else live with you? Who pays the mortgage? etc
The officer did not take a look in any of the +20 photos we brought with us and quickly took a look in our marriage proofs (condo deed, joint accounts, membership, etc). The green card was approved on the spot and the status online changed 20 minutes after the interview.
Tip 1: For the photos, write on the back the date (month/year), place and people on the photo - e.g. March/16 - Madrid, Spain with Friends.
Tip 2: For the photos, it is important to have photos where you show other people rather than only your and your partner.
Tip 3: When answering the questions, go to the point. Don't give too many details unless you are asked for the details.
Tip 4: Be organized - I had 3 sets of documents:
- Only my immigration documents (EAD cards, old passport with old visas, I-20s, etc)
- Married proof anything on the folder, I was fine the officer taking
- Originals of my documents and my partner (birth certificate, passports, marriage license, etc)
Bottom line:
- If your marriage is real, you should not worry. It is just a matter of answering the questions.
- Be organized
