My EAD Experience
New York based application - L1a -> Green card (C-09) - National Benefits Centre

06/22 - sent in 130, 131, 485, 765
06/25 - debited, and listed as the receipt date on the notice
07/23 - biometrics appointment

— queue crickets for two months —

09/27 - got an official job offer on a condition that I got my EAD on hand by 10/29 (*gulp*). Called USCIS to expedite - the agent submitted our request without adding that I got a pending job offer. Panicked and faxed in a note to explain that I got an active job offer
09/28 - got an email confirming that our request to expedite EAD was received
10/02 - googled and found my senator (Schumer). Submitted web form and faxed in all information available via Fax (what's up with the obsession with fax in this day and age with all immigration-related stuff btw?). Heard nothing from his office despite calling them every few days.
10/22 - googled and found my local congressman (Jerrold Nadler). Submitted webform and delivered the documents in person. Same day filed a case with the USCIS ombudsman as well via googling them and filled in a web form - that was surprising easy and no faxing required (hallelujah).
10/23 - got an email from the ombudsman office that they received my case and shared that with management. Same day got a call from Jerrold Nadler's office that the card is in production.
10/27 - card in hand!

Learning:

1. Don’t beat yourself up in the process - I second-guessed myself all the time in terms of whether or not I left it too late to apply. Or did enough. Life happens. Sometimes you can only do your best. Be gentle on yourself.
2. Be proactive - this forum really helped me so much. I don’t know how much help it was to expedite the card via USCIS because they were quite non-chalant about it. Agents on the phone were helpful and picked up our call super almost instantly, but their hands were tied with a huge backlogs of requests. I had a feeling that contacting my local congressman and the Ombudsman office really helped. I wish I did that sooner given that the Senator never got back to me even though I kept calling his office for follow-up. And don’t be afraid to reach out to more than source of support. E.g. I only got a letter from Schumer’s office days after I got my EAD so that wasn’t as helpful as the other congressmen or the ombudsman office.
3. Hang in there!! Thank you everyone for leaving encouraging messages because they meant a lot in the darkest times (ain’t I the drama queen) but that’s true. I woke up every day to read this thread.

Let me know if you have any questions!
