Marriage based interview NY Federal Plaza experience
Hello all,

I wrote yesterday about my interview for today at 7:15am at the Federal Plaza.

A few things to note:
Marriage based I485
PD 11/24/17
Interview notice: 10/25 no prior text, alert, email nothing. Just received document in the mail.
Interview 11/28 7:15AM
I prepared all documents on my own with help from Google and forums like this.
My husband and I were not separated.
Dress appropriately and if this marriage based wear wedding bands.

Arrived at 645AM and waited for building to open.

Went through security, if you can avoid carrying so much so you can get through security fast. You need to take off your shoes, belt, heavy jewelry BUT KEEP YOUR RINGS ON.

Went to the 9th floor, received a colored paper, sent down to the 4th floor. Received a ticket at exactly 7:15AM. We were the first to arrive, receive a ticket and sit down, but timing all depends on the officer/IO you get and if they are prepared. If your IO is prepared and ready your wait and interview won't be long. Other people who arrived after us got called in before us because their IO was prepared.

We waited till 820AM before we got called in. We left the IO's office at 9:30AM and he said congratulations you are approved expect your card in 4-6weeks and we left.

Our interview took so long because our IO had just returned back to the office since being off for 1.5weeks. He hadnt logged into the computer, he didnt remember his passwords, so this delayed the interview. He approved our case and we sat there chatting whiles he sorted out some things on the computer then escorted us out.

1. My advice to you is you can do this all on your own and a lawyer is not necessary unless you absolutely need one for legal reasons.
2. Everything depends on 2 things, how you prepared your documents and if you were thorough in your preparation and pray that you get a really good IO!
2. Before you file your documents make an exact duplicate of your entire application and whatever else you send in. Have a checklist and keep that for before the interview so you do not have to go searching for copies when the interview comes.
3. Make copies of everything and have originals available for everything.
4. Rules about I693 have changed, read about the policy if you do not know yet: https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume8-PartB-Chapter4.html

Good luck to you all and let me know if you have questions. When i get my card i will send an update here as well.
