10/8/2018 I130 changed to 'Scheduled to be Interviewed'
10/16/2018 Interview scheduled for 11/28/2018 at Newark Field Office

11/28/2018

I had the interview today, my wife and I attended (1.15pm scheduled) and were taken back to the interview room around 1.45 I believe. We had my lawyer with us, which I would recommend even if just for the peace of mind. I also used this lawyer throughout the entire process.

Interview was reasonably short, the officer was nice and pleasant and went through some of the basic details of my application. He asked (all directed at me) for my DOB, full name, address, current job (and job address), my wifes DOB, place of birth, full name. ( I gave a slightly different city of birth for my wife by accident, but he didn't seem to mind. I gave the large city, where her Birth Cert lists a smaller town adjacent to the city.) I had prepared a folder with all the documents required, which I really think helped a lot. He seemed to be grateful that I had gone to lengths to have copies of everything neatly prepared for him, which may go some way to explaining why my experience was smooth.

After taking some basic documents (lease agreement, some PSEG bills, and a car insurance document with my wifes name on it) he flipped through the second binder I had prepared, which was entirely printouts of photos of my wife and I at various events/stages of our relationship. I offered him the entire binder to keep, which he did. I also brought with me a photobook-style present that my wife had made for me as a birthday gift, which he flipped through but I asked him not to keep. He did not mind.

After this, he double checked some of the basic "are you a terrorist", "do you plan on being a terrorist", "do you know any terrorists?" etc questions, and then told me that he was going to recommend that I am approved. "Welcome to America."

The entire interview took around 20 minutes maximum, and I think that since I went to some effort to prepare all the documents and photographs neatly and easily accessibly for him, it smoothed the experience.

If anybody has questions about this, or about the Newark FO experience in general, please reply and I will do my best to answer them. I am aware that my process has been unusually short and smooth, and am grateful for this.
