How much time VfS takes to send back your passport to you after you get that they are collected

I have sent my passport on 7th dec and it received it on 11th dec.
On 20th I got a mail that my passport was collected from VFS NY, but i dont have any update from Fedex yet( i used a return envelope of fedex to ship my passport back to me). I dint see any tracking on my fedex shipment and I contacted fedex lot many times but they couldn’t trace it and now I am in a terrible situation not knowing where my passport is.
How much time does vfs take to send back your passport back after it is stamped or after your get an update that its been collected.
Does VFS ship it at all or is it still with VFS... any one had similar experience or in similar situation..?
