H1B and H4 renewal experience in Ottawa: received 221G
Interview Date/time: Jan 18th, 8:45 AM

Reached Embassy around 8:30 AM was let in shortly after.

The line was very long. Checked in the first counter around 9 am and was asked to go through security and then Window 3 or 4. Both windows were for document check.

The line for window 3 and 4 was also very long, stood in line for over an hour.

The next step was finger printing at window 5. No wait here as everyone who got done with Window 3 or 4 was going for finger printing.

There was another line after finger printing which was the final interview:

We stood in line for over half an hour. Interview windows were 6 and 7.

These were the questions that the VO asked:

Is this your first H1B stamping (it was my 4th time actually)
How long have you been on H1B?
Do you have an approved I140?
Who do you work for?
What does the company do?
What is your job title?
What does your job entail?
What countries have you been to in the last 5 years?
What is your highest level of education?
Do you have your transcripts?
What is your spouse highest level of education?
What was your graduate school research focused on?
Do you have your CV? (I did not have a hard copy of my resume with me)

My current H1B from my previous employer was still valid but the VO stamped it with "Cancelled without Prejudice" which is standard if you receive a 221G

The VO then handed me my 797 and Passport back along with 221G and asked me to send my resume.

I was really not expecting the 221G based on how the interview was going (but I dont think any one expects 221G going in the interview anyway) but i was a little boggled after the VO handed that blue 221G slip and I did not ask the VO how long it will take?

All I was thing of was to get back to the hotel and send in my resume.

We were out of the embassy around 10:50 AM so it took over 2 hours from when we first arrived and got done.

We are staying in Ottawa for now. Its been 3 Business days (6 days total) now and no response. Waiting to hear back from the consulate ASAP.

This was my 4th time coming to Canada for stamping (2 times in Ottawa and 1 time in Toronto previously) The last 3 times have been a breeze so it was surprising that this time there were so many questions and I got 221G. I am not sure how long it is going to take but I will provide an update when I hear from the Consulate.

Thank you
