Chicago interview
Hi everyone!
I finally made an account to share my experience here as I’ve been a silent reader for months.
Came here on b2 visa to visit family friends and do hospital rotations (I’m a medical graduate from my home country) fell in love with my now husband and we decided to take the leap and go ahead with it. That was back in December 2017. My husband is a born citizen.
Filed the case in Chicago on April 9th 2018
Biometrics on May 12th 2018
Rfe response requested (my birth certificate wasn’t accepted) on May 30th
Rfe response replied on June 28th 2018
Cause ready for interview August 9th
Interview scheduled 11th January 2019
Today interview given in Chicago field office on February 21st and 8:30 am

The officer was an old man, highly professional and very knowledable. He knew things about our culture and religion that you’d never accept anyone who doesn’t belong from those things would know.
Questions asked:
My name spelling
How many times I’ve been married
How many kids have I ever had
How many times husband has been married
How many kids he has
How many times I’ve come to America before this time
What did I study back in my home country
What do I plan to do with my degree
Who pays the bills
How was our wedding like? Did my husband come on a horse to pick me? Lol
Was there any dowry given or promised? (The husband messed up here as he said no and I had to correct him about the promised money and he asked why the husband doesn’t know to which I replied cause it was more of a decision between the parents than us to which he said very interesting and made a note about that in his notes. Not sure what to think about it :/ )
Other questions about both of our professions, which were more conversational as he genuinely had a lot of knowledge about our professions and seemed very interested.

These are the things that went good. Now the things that are giving me anxiety.
First he wasn’t sold on the fact as to why I didn’t had a birth certificate from the time when I was born ( back in my home country we don’t really have birth certificates we just have another kind of family certificate. So I had to get a new birth certificate just for the adjustment of status over here and that’s why it’s registration was of 2018)
He seemed very irked by the fact that in my father’s affidavit he didn’t mention my husband asking for his permission. Which I told him he did, my father might’ve forgot to put it in writing.

At the end he explained how the process will go. He says he reviews the case, then talk to the couple aka the interview that had just happened. Then he said he reviews the case once again, run a background check and then he’ll refer our case to his superior. And we will get the decision in the mail.

All the experiences I’ve read here have gone either way. Either they approve it or they don’t and ask for further things. I’ve never heard about this ‘referring to the superior’ scenario. My husband and I felt good about the interview until few things went wrong but at the end we don’t know what to think about his remarks. Any inputs from you guys is very welcome please share your opinions.

Another question is whatever decision is going to come in the mail, when should it be arriving? How long did it get for you guys to get any decision in the mail?

Thank you so much and I wish the best of luck to every one of you :)
