i-485
Hi all, we are a couple who reside in Los Angeles are and would like to share our journey for the I-485 marriage based case.

We arrived Los Angeles USCIS office around 06:00AM, our appointment is at 0645. After 30 minutes wait, security finally let us in to the building for a security check. We headed to the 8th floor (room 8024). As soon as we got in, we were greeted by a lady and she took/scan our appointment notice. She told us to wait for someone to call our name from one of the office doors (there are office number 1 and 2). 15 minutes went by, gentlemen called out my wife name and we headed to door number 2. He asked us to turn off our cell-phone, and rite after he led us to his office.

When we went to his office, he asked us to stand still for the “truth oath”. Follow by a statement that he will go over our I-130 and I-485 during the interview. He started with my I-130 applications, basically just asking most of the questions from the form and making sure all the answer were match ( name, address, DOB, spouse DOB, etc.). When he was done with the I-130, he asked my wife that he will go over her I-485 applications, same drill but more “YES”/”NO” questions( you probably know those countless pages of y/n questions in the applications). He also asked for any joint documents what we brought that day; we gave bank statements (2), car insurance, federal income tax. He is not asking much about other things like pictures or some tricky questions towards the end. After he made copy of our passports, idea, The not fun part was when he told us that he needs to run a background check and he will make decision by the end of the day. Yap no more on the spot decision; he gave us a white paper stating that “your case is being held for review”. We were shocked and upset at the same time, since our case wasn’t approved or rejected that day (another uncertain long wait).

After we got out of the USICS federal building, we started googling about the letter the officer gave us. Some of couples who experience the same thing got their status update within hours or weeks, and some took months as well. In addition to our research journey, most of the lawyers on the forum were saying that it is their normal procedure for I-485 now day .We kept checking the case status night and day for the next two days and finally on day 2, status changed “card was mail to me”. The long wait is finally over for us.
