I would like to share my experience at Chennai Cosulate during December 2 week. Before going there I prepared all the documents like a first time visitor.
Please be available at the consulate gate between 20- 30 minutes. Don't carry cell phone or other electronic devices.
The first check would be releated to DD. Based on that they would provide some receipt which you have to carry to the next counters.
Since I carried H1-B beyond 6 years, the following documents have been asked at the counter for providing a pink slip:
I 797 (h1 B)
I 129
DS 156
DS 157
Web appointment Letter.
and the DD's.
Once that is done you will be asked to go the officer's section. If you are going first time you have to give the finger print first. Left and Right Index finger prints are taken for which you have to make sure your index fingers are clean.
The pink slips would contain a number. Based on the number you will be called to stand in a queue to meet a officer. Please don't lean on the Desk. It's better to wear white or light dresses.
The important thing I noticed is that if you provide all the documents whatever they ask mostly you would given the visa. And you should be honest in your answers. You should answer only to the questions that you are asked. No additional details should be provided unless specifically asked.
Here is the conversation details of me:
M: How are you doing, Sir?
O: Fine. How are you?
M: I am doing fine. Thank you.
O: How long you have been with the company?
M: X years
O: What exactly you do there?
M: My role for the product.
O: Show the Degree Ceritificates
M: Showed original Certificate
O: Show pay slips for the 12 months
M: Provided
O: Show Tax filing Papers for last two years
M: Submitted
O: Are you married?
M: yes/no
That fetched me the visa. So having all the documents plus with the right short answers would help better. If you are going for 6 or 7 th year h1 please take evidence of green card filing status. That's a must.
Most of all you should be confident.
