H1B Stamping in Montreal Apr 11th 2019 Approved.
We (Me and my wife) had our H1B appointments in Montreal today (04/11) and got approved. I have not seen any recent Montreal experiences, so thought I will give detailed update here.

Our appointment was at 12:30 pm. we went in early (11:45am) to see if they will let us in. The security guard said they done open till 12:30pm so we cant get in before that, we went to a coffee shop near by and came back at 12:25 pm and there was a line of about 10 people .

How ever they started letting us in at 12:30 pm, including every one who has an appointment at 1:00pm so I think they will let you in as soon as they open even if you are early.

Step 1: Entry and Security Check

Security guard asked us to have Passports and DS160 confirmation page handy before we entered the building.

As soon as we enter there was a person checking them to confirm appointment and let us in.

There was a security check and where you have to take off your jackets, keys, phones, and watches. They took my car keys and phone and gave me a token.

We were asked to take elevator to 19th Floor. In front of the elevator there was a photo booth which accepts $10 or $5 (CAD) cash only to take your picture if you need it.

Step 2: Document Verification

We both stood in a line for document check. My wife and I both went to different windows. The officer checked my new passport and saw that I am using same picture so he confirmed that i am using a 1 year old picture vs less than 6 months old so asked me to go down and have pictures taken. My wife's were find even though hers was 1 year old.

Officer held on to my documents and told me to come back to him directly and no need to stand in line after taking those pictures. Photo booth charges $10 CAD (Canadian Dollars) for 6 pictures and dispenses them in strips of 3 per strip.

I took them to the officer he was reviewing someone else's docs so i waited for couple of mins and he took the pictures and cut one out of them and scanned the picture. gave all 6 back to me.

What visa status are you in Canada ? Visitor. Marks V on the DS160 Conformation page and puts my I797 in a plastic folder to give all back to me. Tells me to hold off on to old passport until interviewer requests.

Step 3: Finger Prints

From document verification I stood in a line for finger prints. The officer asked me to follow instructions as per the board there. Left hand 4 fingers, Right Hand 4 fingers, and Both Thumbs.

My wife had already moved to next step by the time i came back from pictures.

Step 4: Visa Interview

Even though my wife and I both had H1B stamping working with different employers, and we had separate applications (we intended to have separate interviews to not have impact of one person's decision on others) still we were asked to attend interview together.

They were confused on why would we want to do separate interviews as it is not common and i didn't want to create more confusion so i immediately said we are fine going together.

We both went to the booth together.

VO: Hi how are you doing can you please give me your documents.
US: handed our valid passports, DS160 Confirmation page, I797 Docs

VO: She excused herself and went out of booth for 1 min came back and started sorting docs. She keeps 2 separate stacks. She asks if we both were on H1B and we work for different employers.
US : yes, we both have H1B and both work for different employers.

VO: Let's start with madame, Is this your first H1B ?
Her: Yes, It's my first H1B (she got her visa in 2016 and her first ever H1B stamping).

VO: Where do you work and what do you do ?
Her: Work for XYZ and do ABC

VO: What is your education level?
Her: Masters from ABC university.

VO: How about yourself sir?
Me: I work for PQR and I do MNO. with PhD from ABC university.

VO: is this your first time Visa?
Me: i had stamping form past but first time with this employer (I moved employers)

VO: When are you planning to leave ?
US: Early next week

VO: Do you have your Rights booklets?
US: Yes

VO: Congrats your visas are approved and I understand you are coming from out of town so i will give you a Pickup slip so that you can pick your passports from this office tomorrow. I am not guaranteeing you will get them tomorrow but we will do our best to get them to you by 3:00pm tomorrow. Marks the Slip for Friday pickup.

US: Thank you, Have a nice day.

On our way out Security guard told us to come only between 3:00pm and 4:00pm and not early to pick up our passports.

We came out and checked to see both of our status is in AP. I am guessing it will change tomorrow.
