Traveling while waiting for Green Card to arrive
Hi all -

I'm going through so many emotions right now, I just received a notification that my I-485 was approved! I will write a more detailed post on my experience including interview, EAD expedite, etc., but for now I have an important question to run by you all.

I'll spare you the details on how the interview/delayed EAD card forced me to cancel my first travel plans, and just move on to my new travel issue. After my interview, I was given the regular slip stating that it could take up to 120 days to get a response. At that point, my EAD 180-day automatic extension had only 1 month left, so I decided to give it 2 weeks to get a response before filing for an expedite on EAD/AP application that I had sent back in August 2018.

Last week, I finally got my EAD/AP and, given the uncertainty on getting a final response on my I-485 application, I decided to book a new trip. Given all the stories I've read here, I thought there was no chance I would get my I-485 approved RIGHT before my travel. Well, I was wrong. My I-485 was approved today and effectively invalidated my Advance Parole. I am traveling tomorrow and I am not sure what to do. I tried calling USCIS to see if I could swing by a local office (NYC) to get a stamp, and they said it was not possible unless the card is returned to them or lost in the mail.

Now, to my question. My wife will join me in my trip in a few weeks and I was wondering if it's okay for me to leave the U.S. without the physical Green Card (but with the case now approved), as long as when she travels she is able to bring it to me so that I can use to reenter.

What do you guys think? Creative ideas are welcomed.
