Expedited EAD through congressman timeline
Hey everyone!
I want to share my timeline here to give people hope!
If you’re waiting for your EAD, and have a career altering job opportunity coming up, contact your congressman!!! They will help you out - but let me tell you, it’s not going to be easy, the process is nerve wrecking and time consuming, but will be worth it if you’re being proactive!
F1 Student, OPT ended May 15th 2019. Got married to US citizen in October 2018.
AOS Green Card, NBC marriage based, New York City.
APRIL 14th 2019 - I-765, I-131, I-485 Case received.
APRIL 22nd 2019 - I-485 Fingerprint fee accepted, biometrics scheduled for May 14th 2019
MAY 15th 2019 - As of May 15, 2019, we are ready to schedule your Form I-485 Interview.
MAY 22nd 2019 - went to congressman Adriano Espaillat’s office to ask for help to expedite my EAD. I’ve had an incredible job offer, and they wanted my updated paperwork by August 1st. Waited four hours to talk to the senior advisor of immigration affairs, and she said she would help me out. I already brought my offer letter, contract rider that requested an updated EAD, as well as all my receipts and handed it to her. She then asked for me to write a heartfelt letter regarding my situation, as well as a letter from my agent (I’m an actor).
I can’t stress enough, that your personal letter has to HEARTFELT!! State the facts but dont make it a formal or factual. The officers reviewing your letter are only human.. You want them to sympathize with you.
MAY 29th 2019 - went back to the Congress man office to drop off my letters.
From that point on I went back to the office once a week, to talk to the immigration advisor about the status of my case. It can be very frustrating, because each time you have to wait for HOURS, just to talk for a few minutes getting the info that there’s no update yet.
Over the course of tue following weeks, she sent my packet to immigration 3 times! Always be prepared and have all your documents on you.
And then the amazing news!
JULY 1st, 2019 - I-765 Your Card is being produced!
JULY 3rd 2019 - I-765 Your Card has been mailed.
I’m not posting this timeline here to boast about it. I want you to be hopeful, and know that if you’re proactive, persistent, and willing to put the work in to take charge of your situation, you can achieve anything! Contact your congressman! As I said, it’s not going to be easy, but it’s worth a try.
Sending hope and energy to all of you out there! Stay strong!
