I-485 Timeline and Interview Experience Atlanta
Hello everyone :)

I want to share my experience with you all, I hope this is helpful to some of you.

marriage based/NBC/Atlanta filer

No lawyer

PD: 12/20/18
Bio: 1/14/19

No status updates for almost 6 months.

I never received the AP/EAD combo card!

June 12th my status finally changed to "ready to be scheduled for interview"

June 17th - Interview was scheduled

June 21st - Interview notice arrived

We had our interview this week at the Atlanta filed office. First off, make sure you come early as you have to go through security and then you have to wait in line at check in as well.

The officer was very nice, however he was very thorough. He asked us tons of questions and the interview took 45min.

Now to the INTERVIEW:

At first he went through the whole I-130 and then the whole I-485!!!

- He asked me for my husbands name and birth date
- Where he was born
- Where he is working and what is his position
- His income
- Our current address and all of my husbands previous addresses in Atlanta over the past 5 years
- My husbands previous employers
- His parents name, where they live and if I have met them
- How many siblings my husband has

He asked my husband the same questions about me. Then he asked:

- Where and when did we first meet? (exact location, name of the place etc.)
- When did we start dating?
- When did it get serious?
- When did he propose?
- How did he propose?
- Where and when did we get married?
- What did we do right after we got married?
- Who was present at our wedding ceremony?
- Why was none of our family present at the ceremony?
- Who pays the bills?
- Do we have a bank account together? (we don't)
- How many kids we want?

He finished the interview by asking me all of the yes or no questions form the I-485!

The interview was very smooth! Me and my husband were pretty relaxed. We know each other since 5 years and we are a couple since 3, so these questions were very easy for us.

BUT, make sure you stay alert at all times and LISTEN exactly to what the IO is saying. Don't get too comfortable just because you have a nice Officer. They are professional and they know exactly what to look for. They may try to make you relax on purpose and they watch you very closely. So make sure you pay attention!!!

And don't be too nervous either - if you are a real couple, if you gathered enough evidence and if you are well prepared there is nothing to worry about!

Ok, now to the EVIDENCE:

We submitted tons of prove with our initial application, but the IO wanted to see all the additional documents we brought with us to the interview - he kept ALL of it (FYI!) I was very surprised about that!

I created 2 table of contents - one for all the proof we gathered and one for all the original documents we brought to the interview. The officer really liked that. He said he had never seen anyone do this before.

He mentioned as well that so many people come very unprepared and just bring two or 3 letters as proof and that's it! So he appreciated all the documents we gave him.

I want to mention as well that we do NOT have a bank account together and I am not on the lease either! So don't worry if you are in the same situation. Just make sure you gather enough other proof.

Supporting Evidence of Bona Fide Marriage

a. Joint 2018 Tax Return

b. Joint Health Insurance

c. Joint Dental Insurance

d. Pictures

e. Text Messages

f. Cards written to each other on Special Occasions & Cards from friends to us

g. Receipts
under both Names showing same Address

h. Receipts under Petitioner’s name paid with Beneficiary’s Debit/Credit Card

i. Beneficiary’s Lyft/Uber Receipts showing Pickup/Drop Off at Address
 where we live
j. Debit/Credit Card Statements from both of us, showing Petitioner pays for bills, insurance and rent -
Beneficiary pays for groceries and eating out.

The IO looked briefly through all the evidence - he looked closely at the tax return, insurances and at our pictures. Again, he kept ALL of the proof.

At the end he said that the interview went very well - he can't approve us on the spot, however he is confident that he will approve us today before he leaves work. He just wants to take another look at our documents.

Then he gave us the white paper and we were done :)

A few hours later the status changed to: new card is being produced! Keep in mind the case tracker doesn't update in real time - so don't be alarmed just because you don't see your status change right away.

We left immigration at 3pm and the status updated at like 10pm at night.

I WISH ALL OF YOU GOOD LUCK ON THIS JOURNEY!

If you have any questions let me know :)
