Green Card approved after the 3rd interview
Hello everyone.

My Green Card is finally approved after the third interview.

Timeline:
Married - Oct, 2016
PD- Feb,2017 (Chicago, IL)
First interview - June, 2017 - no decision
Second interview - Jan, 2018 - no decision
We moved to NJ and case is transferred to NJ - Feb,2019
Third interview - Apr, 2019 - approved after couple hours we left the interview

First interview - Chicago
We (me, my husband, my daughter from previous relationship, and our lawyer) arrive on time, wait more than two hours of the scheduled time. Officer calls us in, seems pretty busy. And her fingerprint machine does not work. We go some other officer's office to take fingerprints. She says my husband that she needs to ask me questions and would prefer me to answer to the questions, not him. Asks questions, then at the end says I need to go through your bank statements and will make a decision tonight. Also asks if the daycare was closed today so we had to bring the child - I explain that we are leaving for California for a vacation right after this interview.
We never hear back from her. We do multiple follow ups, no luck.

Finally in Dec, 2017 we get a letter asking us to go to their office for an official matter in Jan, 2018. Night before the given date my husband gets hospitalized. I go to the USCIS with my lawyer. Very friendly officer meets us, and says that my case has been re-assigned to her and she wanted to see us before making her decision. I explain her that my husband is hospitalized and provide the letter from hospital and samples' bar code with my husband's name on it. She asks a lot of questions about my ex (daughter's dad). She says she will either render a decision or just will ask for my husband come over. We never hear back from her. We do multiple follow-ups, ombudsman requests, etc. with no luck. Towards to the end of 2018 we go to USCIS building, my husband explains the situation the lady at the window where you turn the interview request in and says that if the officer needs to see him so he is here. They say they are fully booked and cannot do walk-in and give us a piece of paper to fill a request (not sure what form was that). After a while we get a letter basically saying the case is under review.

Jan, 2019 - We move from Chicago to NJ. Before moving we submit a request with an Illinois congressman, by the time they look at our request we move. Then we submit another request with NJ congressman.

We also submit a request with White House and get just an acknowledgement email.

Mid-March, 2019 - I contact congressman's office, and they say they just got an interview notice.

Apr 9, 2019 - Third interview, Newark, NJ
The officer calls us in and says that she has some questions for us and if she wants to ask anything specific she might separate us. My husband thanks her for taking time for us and interview begins. The officer is very friendly and asks the regular questions. We submit all the additional evidences (we had a lot of them!), but we forgot the current lease at home. However, we provide some other documents to prove our address. She says that she sees how many requests we have submitted, she has no clue why this case has not been adjudicated from the first interview. She apologizes couple times for our case being dragged like this. She says she will approve the case today. After couple of hours the status on the website changes to case approved.

Note: After moving to NJ I hired another attorney and she advised me not to overload the officer w unnecessary documents. I went to the lawyer's office with 4 binders. She suggested extremely reduce that volume. She also said that the officers' time is very tight and that is why they are not fond of connecting dots so make sure the evidence you provide is straightforward.

Well, if you lost your sleep and came to this site to read some experiences please know that you are not the only one going through this. First three months of 2019 I was not able to sleep at all and all I did was wondering around in this site. Please hang in there, keep your faith in God/universe/energy and don't stop doing the best you can do. Also dont make your USC spouse's life hell :) (they really dont have control on the process or timelines). Wish you all the best and pray you will hear nice news soon. Let me know if you have any questions.
