Our workpermits' expiry date is approaching, however my husband is on an L1A (expiry in May 2020 and can be extended again) and my H1B is expiring in September 2020. Our lawyers are insisting that we get another work permit, but we don't understand why if we are literally waiting for our date to become current and will get the card then, and our visas are still valid. This would increase the cost of our GC.

Has anyone not renewed and stayed on their visas? Is there any drawback of not renewing? Google is not giving a lot of information and our lawyers can't give a good enough reason for the renewal.
