Adjustment of Status - I-485

Hello everyone. I want to share my experience and need some help and suggestions. I had doubt on my lawyer ever since I hired him. He always gave me false information. In the beginning whenever I called them they were saying that we are sending your paperwork in a few days and it took them more then 2 and half months to just send the paperwork. And then delay in work permit and all. Then my work permit was expiring in October so I contacted them and asked them to renew and they charged me another FEES for just sending the paperwork again. ( I don’t know if that’s how it works or not). Anyways, I paid for it. And then I asked them that when will I get my work permit then they said it will take around 6 months and it came in my mail within 2 weeks. So ever since they were just giving me wrong information. And now I have my interview on 27th August in San Jose. And when I went for the preparation he told me that I have to pay another fees for affidavit of support because my wife is not working.
Now I want to share that when my wife was pregnant last year. She stopped working because of some work issues at her job. And then we had a baby in January 2019. So she did not work after that but we filed the tax jointly. And our income is enough to support.
Now my question is is my lawyer right or Not?
I feel like He is just trying to make our case look very difficult and try to scare us
Even though we have baby and all the paperwork that USCIS needs.
I am just not sure about the affidavit of support.
