Our GC Timeline
Hi All,

Want to share with you our experience with getting our green card. I am married to a US Citizen

Our interview experience:
The IO didn't ask many questions, didn't want to see a lot of the supporting documents we brought, just wanted to see joint docs at the end (joint tax return, apartment lease, joint bank account, health/life insurance beneficiary, cellphone bill). We felt it went well, but at the end she gave us a paper that said our case was being held for review. She said it could take 120+ days for them to make a decision on our case. At that moment we told her we needed to be able to travel to our religious wedding (our big wedding), in 90 days and she just said the case needed to be reviewed and the decision could take 120+ days. She didn't open our medical exam or reviewed any of the supporting docs right there.

At that moment I felt the interview went horribly and perhaps that we pushed the IO given our timeline and I left feeling really worried the timeline was going to get super extended. It was really stressful because I thought we would get approved on the spot. It turns out that doesn't quite happen anymore and almost everyone gets the paper saying their case will be further reviewed. Don't panic like I did.

We got approved later that day but I only found out 2 days later because I was only checking the password protected page (https://myaccount.uscis.gov/) since this is where I got all updates for my combo card. However, all of the updates for the green card were made on; https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do. The password protected website still shows no updates despite me having my green card in my hand. My advice: check both! also, sign up for USPS informed delivery so you can track when your green card is coming under the packages section.

I spoke with a few friends and most of them said their decision came in the next weeks. If your case doesn't get approved super quick, give it some time and see what other options you have to keep working and traveling (EAD/AP renewal for example).

Our timeline:
PD: Jan 30, 2018
Combo card in hand (EAD/AP): July 5, 2018 after expediting via senator with a job offer
Submitted combo card renewal: Jan 14, 2019 - No updates up to this day
Interview notice: August 4, 2019
Interview date: Sept 4, 2019
Approval date: Sept 4, 2019
Green card in hand: Sept 10, 2019 - valid for 2 years

Good luck everyone!
